Tennessee Retirement Asset Protection Laws

In Tennessee, the following retirement assets are protected from creditors:

• pension money from the state or any subdivision or municipality and funds or assets from a qualified retirement plan, except for claims under a QDRO;
• payments under a stock bonus, qualified pension, profit-sharing, annuity, or similar plan (with some restrictions);
• annuities of the teachers' retirement fund;
• state consolidated retirement system benefits; and
• old age assistance.
