Maine Retirement Asset Protection Laws
Maine laws protect the following retirement assets from creditors:
- legislative retirement system benefits, except for child support and QDRO payments;
- self-employed plans benefits, except for child support and QDRO payments;
- state retirement system benefits, except for child support and QDRO payments;
- payments or accounts under a qualified stock bonus, pension, profit-sharing, annuity, IRA, or similar plan or contract;
- group annuity contract or pension trust benefits; and
- military retirement pay, limited to 50 percent of disposable pay to satisfy child support and alimony obligations.
